Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has cried out over the
activities of militants in the region which he
says has affected Delta state badly.
The country has recorded resurged activities
of militants who have bombed oil and gas
pipeline. The Niger Delta Avengers which is
the most notorious has vowed to continue to
do so until a dialogue involving the
international community is put in place.

Vanguard reports that the Delta state
governor lamented the activities of militants
when he received Admiral Joseph Okojie
who is the commander of Operation Delta
Safe and other top military officers in Asaba.

Okowa begged that activities of militants
should stop so as to enable the state to
“maintain its oil production without breaches
as our revenue has dropped drastically.”
He noted that the activities of the militants
had affected the revenue the state got from
the federal government which will adversely
affect the payment of workers’ salaries.
He advised the commander that the best
way to tackle security issues in the Niger
Delta was by sharing of intelligence and
combination of personnel to achieve desired
results.
He commended their effort in the reduction
of sea piracy but said kidnapping was still a
problem and urged them to help find a
lasting solution to it.
He said if kidnapping and robbery still
prevailed in the state, this would affect
investors coming to do business there.
Rear Admiral Okojie said he had had the
mandate of “ President Mohammedu Buhari to
secure the waterways in the Niger Delta region,
covering part of Ondo, Edo, and the entire
Delta, Bayelsa; Rivers as well as part of Akwa
Ibom states against security and economic
threats.”
Okojie warned criminals in the region to have
a rethink and assured that Operation Delta
Safe was prepared to put an end to the
activities of militants and criminals.
