Michel Temer to be sworn in as Brazil's President

Michel Temer will be sworn in as president
of Brazil at 1900 GMT Wednesday after
Dilma Rousseff was stripped of the post,
the leader of the Senate said.
Senate president Renan Calheiros told the
chamber that acting president Temer, 75,
would be sworn in as full head of state
after members convicted Rousseff of
breaking state accounting laws at an
impeachment trial.
Rousseff, 68, was convicted by 61 of the
81 senators of illegally manipulating the
national budget. The vote, passing the
needed two-thirds majority, meant she was
immediately removed from office.
Cheers and cries of disappointment had
erupted in the blue-carpeted, circular
Senate chamber as the verdict flashed up
on the electronic voting screen. Source: PUNCH
